The Haynes Family

Forming life-long client relationships is one of the most satisfying parts of being a financial planner. Luckily for the team at Polson Bourbonniere, the Haynes family has allowed us to experience this pleasure to a unique degree, with four generations currently working with us.

Norman Haynes was the first member of the clan to join Polson Bourbonniere many years ago, after having met Kirk Polson through his sister. The now retired fire-fighter survived his dangerous career in good health, and enjoys spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Now 88, Norm is an avid stamp collector and founder of the Scarborough Seniors Slo-pitch team, which is currently enjoying its 26th season!

Paul and Doug, Norm’s sons, both followed in their dad’s footsteps to become clients of Polson Bourbonniere - as well as fire-fighters themselves. While both are happily and healthily retired from fire-fighting, they haven’t actually stopped working! Paul’s painting business keeps the brothers busy and is another example of the “new non-retirement” that so many are experiencing.

Unlike Paul and Doug, their wives are still working although retirement is looming for them in the not too distant future. Paul’s wife Gail is a child and youth worker with Durham Region, while Doug’s wife Lil provides administrative support to a consulting engineer.

Paul and Gail’s offspring, Melany, Scott and Holly, are young yet - all still living at home while receiving their education. We are proud to count them as clients, too!

Andrew and Michael, Doug and Lil’s sons, are all grown up and both work in law enforcement. Michael and his wife Lindsey have three lovely young children who have already begun to plan for their futures with the Polson Bourbonniere team, with more than a little help from their parents. So, that makes four generations of Haynes family clients!

The Haynes’ legacy of serving the community began with Norm’s father, as well as his fatherin- law, who were also fire-fighters. Despite the death of Norm’s father from injuries on the job, the tradition continued with Norm and then his boys, Paul and Doug – and who knows, maybe one day into the fourth generation. In all, the extended Haynes family can count over 10 fire-fighters amongst their number!

One thing is for certain - while the Haynes family diligently works to serve and protect our community, Lydia Bzowej and the Polson Bourbonniere team work diligently to make sure their financial futures don’t go “up in smoke”!
